Passed away on 11th September 2022, age 84, after a short illness.
Brian was Patron of our charity cars show over many years bringing his considerable
knowledge and personal contacts to support the event.
He managed the ‘rally section’ each year and through his endeavours brought
celebrities from the world of Motorsport to attract thousands of visitors. Amongst his
notable guests were the late Paddy Hopkirk, rally icon, the live show interview given
by these two raconteurs was wonderful, and in the following year we were delighted
to welcome Derek Bell, five times Le Mans winning driver.
Brian’s easy manner, his love of all things Motorsport and his enthusiastic support
were revered by us all and our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
Stuart Annett, Keith Mcgee and the Classics & Supercars Show organising team.
Brian began rallying in 1960 and retired at the end of 1979 season and is probably
best known for his long association as a works driver with BMC/British Leyland. He
considers his most notable achievements as 2nd Overall in the 16,500 mile London-
Mexico World Cup Rally, Class win in Finland’s 1000 Lakes (the first ever by a non-
Scandinavian driver) and winning his class in all seven rounds of the 1978 British
Open Rally Championship for Opel.
Brian competed in 112 International rallies through 53 countries and also had works
drives for BMC, Opel, Mercedes, Lotus, Rootes, Triumph and Rover pre BL days.
