Vantage Volante V8CKL 15774
Car Number 5 in our gallery of pictures
The car was first registered by a Swiss owner in May 1989 being one of the last of this model ever built.
The original buyers build specification required that chrome wire wheels were fitted. This caused much consternation, with Aston Martin at first refusing to fit the wheels and warrant the vehicle, stating that the 450bhp from the 5.3 litre V8 engine would produce too much torque for the strength of the wheels. Borrani eventually designed and supplied double-spoked wheels capable of managing the torque, we know of only one other car similarly equipped from new.
The second owner had returned the car to Newport Pagnell for a complete overhaul before installing it amongst other supercars on display in the main living area of his house!
My brother-in-law, Mark Hilpern, then acquired the car from Germany in August 2004, it returned to England in 2005 where I became involved overseeing a complete engine strip down and rebuild through Grange Aston Martin in Exeter.
The car was then for the first time registered in UK and plated with the very apt registration A8TON which I found in South Africa. Since then it has attended many of the ‘Classics at the Castle’ shows and last year featured there in the Centenary Aston line up.
